Why could you have different scores?

Credit scores can be calculated in multiple different ways. Even if each of the three main credit bureaus (Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion) uses the same calculation model the final number may vary. It happens because first of all, there are two main calculation models, namely VantageScore and FICO. While analyzing the same data, they have diverse factors and formulae in their basis, so the final count varies. Besides that, each of the bureaus also diversifies these models according to the purpose for which a credit score is required; for example, a credit score for a mortgage can be lower than one for a car loan.

The next most common factor that changes the digits you see is the date of the credit report. If a lender requested your report a month ago, they would have a different number on the paper than the one you seek today. This is why it is so essential to compare reports made on the same day.

Finally, not all lenders cooperate with all three bureaus. Sometimes, a lender may go with two of them and omit to send reports to the third one. As a result, this third one will be missing part of your data and hence calculate your credit score lower than the former two agencies.
